Okay so before I watched this movie I was really biased against it. The trailer didn’t charm me at all. I was a little like: “Oh, owls. Everybody loves owls. Feels like a gimmick.” And it didn’t help that the owls in helmets just made my brain scream “SPARTAN OWL” every time I saw it.
But my mom got it on Netflix and forced the family to sit down and watch it and…
WOW. I really like it. Really really really like it. The characters were pleasantly compelling. It’s so sad that all the good stuff I felt from the movie I didn’t get from the trailers at all because I would have gladly gone to the theater to see this. The graphics were AMAZING amazing (or..on my HDTV it is, hahah). And I have to say, has some of the most creative animal-battle-cinematic-shots I’ve ever seen. It was impressive.
It’s definitely a kids’ film, but it doesn’t shy away from some more sinister themes…and still manages to keep the atmosphere optimistic.
So…this post is really just for anyone like me…who thought the movie trailer for it looked really stupid, hahaha. It’s actually not bad!
And I had no idea it was actually based on books. Huh.
